The Angel of the deep

Updated: Apr 12, 2018

Located on the gulf of Mexico , California. Home to the invisible shark, The Angel shark. A bottom dweller, rare in it’s sightings, enlisted as an endangered species. This rare creature, had been spotted , by a boat cruising the sea carrying illegal commodities. Adrian Marks had been situated in California his whole life, he lived near the coast having the beach at his feet. Today Adrian had been told some disquieting news from a friend. One that tore his heart from his chest. Now Adrian, was your average teenage boy, a trouble maker, but one with a conscience. He never stood for the mistreatment of animals, the injustice of the innocent. He never fought with anyone smaller then himself, only those looming over him were a threat. He sat, drowning in his thoughts, staring at the highlights of the sea water. The moon’s rays glittering over the waves. The barren and extensive beach , baked in the sun, rested at night. The creature’s hidden in it’s crevices , escaping into the sea. Crabs were no longer shy, their claws grabbed at the air. The pale modesty of the moon shone onto the sandy shores. The placidity was not disturbed by Adrian’s presence, life seemed to open before him.

The waves grew with anger, pushing the plastic from it’s mouth. The wind was harsh against his skin, It only taunted him and not the animals. Adrian’s conscience was gnawing at him. Adrian’s hand was sinking into the shoreline, watching the water envelop him. He got up, made a decision and would confront the beach security the next day. After a whole bunch of arrangements, conversations, written forms est. He walked out of the offices, head held high, but not too high. He had been noticed. The people targeting his actions, had been alarmed and he knew he was in trouble.

With a torn body, Adrian sat at the same isolated beach. This time it was not barren, it carried an individual by the name of Tracey. She was sitting at the edge of what was dry, legs crossed and eyes closed. She looked like a meditating monk, Adrian scoffed at her sight. She was completely unperturbed by her surroundings, she was zoned out. He sat next to her, unable to close his legs, he sat painfully letting out a dragged sigh. The sunset painted the sky, with dark and brazen colors of red and yellow. It’s smoky appearance brightening the sky , a grand spectacle. ‘’I saw what happened to you, ‘she said smoothly. She didn’t look at him, but opened her eyes to gaze into the fiery scene. ‘’I signed your petition, ‘she said. Her words shaking him from his daze, ‘I thought nobody cared,’’.

‘’Of course there are people that care, some people’s fear just gets the best of them, ‘she said . He hadn’t thought about that, how he had what it took to stand up for what’s right. But his resolution got him injured, rowdy people don’t like boys that to big for their shoes, apparently. ‘That make’s you brave I guess, ‘she said veering her vision back at the water. ‘Or stupid, ‘she chuckled. They both sort of enjoyed the humor that erupted. ‘’Now, how did this ghost shark slide it’s way into your life?’’, she said. The wind picked up it’s face, it caressed the blonde curls of her hair. He had to think about for a few seconds. ‘’I saw it the one day, stuck in a friend of mine’s net, ‘he said. Fear was slowly veering it’s head. ‘’He wasn’t really there for that specific shark, he was helping his dad catch fish, ‘he continued.’’ They weren’t expecting it, ‘he looked at the water. The waves were thrashing against the shore. ‘’They kept it for a few days, his dad wanted to use it as bait for the crabs, ‘The air grew colder. ‘’After seeing it, I searched online, found out that it’s critically endangered. ‘She turned to look straight at him, position herself.’’ Pleading with my friend, just lead to wounds, they didn’t really care, ‘he said showcasing the bruised on his arms.

‘’They argued that it’s just another shark, ‘he scoffed irritated. He shook his head and said, ‘What’s worse, having sharks in the ocean, or having an empty sea?’’. He continued to say ,’’After that event, they went out, looking for that specific shark,’’ .She nodded .’’Maybe they did it to taunt me, I don’t know, ’’he said looking down at his cuts on his fingers. ‘’How does it look?’’, her question causing his mind to drift. ‘It’s a flattened ray-like shark, It has wing like pectoral fins. It’s mouth is at the tip of it’s snout, the eyes are dorsal. And it’s white, with grayish or brownish splotches. It looked sort of muddy, but that sand-like color helps it camouflage, it’s back sort of looks like it sparkles when swimming. ‘he said smiling. ‘’It’s like an angel soaring the sand of the sea’s depth, residing in the dark sky of the ocean.’’
