A Love Poem

I knew the you that you left behind

I remember you as you were the day we met.

You were the sweet baritone in my melody, mild-tempered.

Your eyes twinkled, fought for the flame in mine.

And the flame sparked between us.

Your smile clasped onto me like roots,

Deep-seethed emotions grew.

Twisting branches, leaves that touched the sky

Your memory was the light, the evening sun

Beyond what we could see, the fire blazed on.

As the sun set, our whispers turned to ash.
